The Idol winner is one busy beauty! Here, Carrie Underwood’s one-woman tress & makeup team spills her secrets.
BY BROOKE SAGER
Carrie Underwood has seriously come a long way since rocking the American Idol stage back in 2005. At age 29, this gorgeous country crooner is now a multi-platinum selling recording artist and we’re anxiously awaiting the May 1st release of Blown Away, her fourth album. As she continues to wow us with catchy singles like “Good Girl”, we can’t help but also be envious of her beautiful blonde locks. To get the inside scoop on Carrie’s style secrets, we went straight to her mane woman: Melissa Schleicher, hair and makeup artist for Parlour 3 in Brentwood, TN. Here’s what she had to say!
CUT & COLOR BASICS:
According to Schleicher, Carrie has a lot of hair that’s on the finer side, with a cut that features a few subtle, all over layers. Currently, she’s wearing her tresses at shoulder level, but she isn’t afraid to play around with bangs and different lengths. “Sometimes we’ll use extensions for added volume and bigness,”
Schleicher reveals. As for color, the singer was born a dark blonde. “We just do a few soft highlights to brighten things up—she’s so pretty naturally,” says Schleicher. Since Carrie’s hair grows fast, she gets a trim every 6-8 weeks when she goes in for color. Would the blonde beauty ever go darker? “She’s always wanted to, but I don’t think we’re there yet!”
CARRIE’S HEALTHY HAIR TRICK
With her new album coming out, Ms. Underwood is constantly on the road, and styling your hair every day really takes its toll. To help keep her locks healthy and full of luster, Carrie makes sure to keep up with weekly deep-conditioning. Her favorite product? Davines Nounou Nourishing Repairing Mask.
Carrie was certainly turning heads all over the place at this year’s CMA Awards—she rocked over 10 different looks that night! “We changed her hairstyle each time in under 2 minutes—a barrette or clip would do the trick,” says Schleicher. Carrie kicked the evening off on the red carpet in loose curls pulled back into an elegant half-updo with side-swept bangs.
Want to recreate Carrie’s natural but sultry look from the Grammy’s? Schleicher worked her magic using the following products:
• Too Faced Full Bloom Ultra Flush Blush in Who’s Your Poppy
• Too Faced Naked Eye Collection
• MAC 44 Lashes
• Liptini Flirtini Lipstick
• Too Faced Glamour Gloss in Barely Legal (on top)
Loose, pretty waves are Carrie’s go-to ’do, whether she’s on stage or at an awards show. To ensure that they come out lush and frizz-free, Schleicher reports armed with her three favorite products:
• Prolocks Crack Styling Treatment: “I apply this to Carrie’s strands before blowing them out to help de-frizz and nourish.”
• Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray: “This really helps pump up the volume.”
• Oribe Soft Lacquer Styling Spray: “I’ll spray it on, then brush it out for a more glamorous wave.”
